HYROX — Why Everyone's Talking About It (and How to Prepare for It)
Do you see Hyrox videos everywhere? Do you hear friends talking about it? Do you scroll and come across reels of burpees, sled pushes, and wall balls?
Welcome to the Hyrox phenomenon .
Today, I'm taking you behind the scenes of this hybrid sport that's a hit. And if you're tempted by the adventure, I'll also give you the keys to preparing for it.
What exactly is Hyrox?
The Hyrox is an ultra-accessible functional race , which combines:
- 8 km running
- And 8 exercise stations , between each kilometer
Always in the same order, regardless of the city or country.
Here is the exact procedure:
- 1 km run
- SkiErg — 1000 m
- Sled Push — 50 m
- Sled Pull — 50 m
- Burpee Broad Jumps — 80 m
- Rowing — 1000 m
- Farmer Carry — 200 m
- Sandbag Lunges — 100 m
- Wall Balls — 100 reps
It's intense, it stings... but it's addictive . And above all, accessible to everyone , whatever your level, your age or your sporting background.
You can register solo , double , or even in a 4-person relay . All in an electric atmosphere from morning to night.
Why is it so popular?
1. Because anyone can do it
98% of people who sign up finish the race. That's crazy.
And whether you're an ultra-fit guy, a beginner, or a 45-year-old mom looking to challenge yourself, you have your place on the starting line.
2. Because you're never alone
Waves start every 10 minutes. A crazy atmosphere. You never know who's ahead or behind, you meet lots of people, you're never in silence like in a marathon at the 35th km.
3. Because it's always the same format
You can compare your times from one race to another, see your progress, and set a goal.
1h30 on the first one? Aim for 1h25 on the next one. You have a clear benchmark, like a 10K or a half marathon.
4. Because the community is amazing
You meet people with patches on their bags, you encourage each other even if you don't know each other, you do Hyrox with your friend or girlfriend.
It's more than a race, it's a vibe.
The basics you need to know before you start
- Prepare yourself a little : even if it's accessible, you don't want to suffer. A few weeks of cardio training + strength training + station techniques is a good starting point.
- Choose your category wisely : solo if you want to challenge yourself, double if you want to have a great experience as a couple, relay if you want to share it with a team.
- Arrive mentally prepared : it's intense, but you'll feel alive.
And if you want some feedback from the field...
I'm in the middle of my preparation to make a Hyrox in less than 1 hour , I document everything on my YouTube channel, and in my podcast Le Bazcast , I talk to you in detail about my very first Hyrox, where I almost gave up completely because of a big blackout. Spoiler: I finished. And that's what I remember.
It's your turn
If you were still hesitating, I hope this is clear:
Hyrox is a physical slap, but a real dose of dopamine.
And if you enjoyed this article, share it with a friend you want to try a double with, or with someone who needs to challenge themselves this year.
